Welcome April; you bring us a month closer to Spring, and a month solely reserved to strengthen our devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.
Dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament, April is a wonderful time to renew our fervor and devotion to this miraculous gift from Our Lord. Especially this year, where Lent still continues throughout April! Unfortunately, its not always possible for us to make a Holy Hour, or to spend time in front of the Blessed Sacrament. (As a new mom, I'm learning that quickly!) But here are a few other ways we can spend our time united to Our Lord.
- As you wake up, make your first thought of the day a prayer. Remember that all over the world, Mass is being celebrated and the Blessed Sacrament is there. Unite yourself to Him in the Holy Host by making a Spiritual Communion. Making a Spiritual Communion doesn't need to be something formal. St. Padre Pio says, "In the course of the day, when it is not permitted to you to do otherwise, call Jesus, even in the midst of all your occupations, with a resigned sigh of the soul and He will come and will remain always united with your soul by means of His grace and His holy love. Make a spiritual flight before the Tabernacle, when you cannot go there with your body, and there pour out the ardent desires of your spirit and embrace the Beloved of souls, better than if it had been permitted to you to receive Him sacramentally."
- Throughout your day, continually make it a point to offer up all your struggles, trials, and challenges as reparation for all the abuses, misuses, and sins committed against Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. An easy way to do this would be to say little ejaculations throughout the day, or whenever you feel frustrated, or need some extra grace! "Jesus, I offer this for the love of Thee in the Blessed Sacrament."
- Everytime you pass a church, be sure to salute Our Lord hidden there in the Tabernacle. Make the sign of the Cross and say some prayer that will honor Him there. "May the Heart of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the altar, be praised, adored and loved, with grateful affection, at every moment, in all the tabernacles of the world, even til the end of time. Amen."
- Pick up a book on the Blessed Sacrament that you might be able to take a few minutes each day to read something from for the month of April. One favorite is, Visits to the Blessed Sacrament and to the Blessed Virgin Mary, by St. Alphonsus M de'Liguori.
"Devotion to the Eucharist is the noblest of devotions, becuase it has God as its object. It is the most profitable for salvation, because it gives us the Author of Grace. It is the swetest, b ecause the Lord is Sweetness Itself." -St. Pius X, Pope of the Eucharist
